Meet Rhett, our adorable new addition! Rhett is a 3 year old neutered Australian Shepherd. He's a little nervous right now from finding himself at the shelter, but given time he will quickly become your new best friend!
Rhett found himself here through no fault of his own. His original owner passed away, and a family member tried to take Rhett in. Unfortunately, a dog they already had did not like Rhett, so his owner made the tough decision to help him find a better fit. Now, Rhett is still getting used to us here, and it will take some time for him to open up. Hats and hoodies seem to scare this gentle boy, so please leave those off! When you meet Rhett, just go slow at first. When you sit with him and let him get to know you, he warms up, but he isn't going to like being rushed at right off the bat.
Rhett has been around cats, other dogs, and a variety of other animals, and did well with them all. As previously mentioned, an older dog in his last home did not like Rhett, so any dog being dominant or getting in his face might spook him. He has never been around kids, and with him being so nervous he should be supervised around littles until he can get used to his new home. We always recommend a meet and greet with any potential siblings before adopting, so you can be sure Rhett is the right dog for you.
Even though he's shy now, when Rhett opens up he can be a little energy-bomb! Aussies are known for being very active, and Rhett is no exception. He'll need an owner that can help him stay moving to ensure he is his happiest and healthiest self. Once you help him get the wiggles out, Rhett does know how to chill, though. He would love a best friend to snuggle with at the end of a long day! Rhett has received some training, and he is house trained on top of knowing some basic commands. Aussies are also known for their intelligence, and Rhett is still young enough that you could likely teach him more if you wanted!
Rhett has received his first round of vaccinations and is ready to go to a home where he can thrive once more! If you think Rhett could be the pooch for you, stop by and meet him today!
