Meet Arabella! Arabella is an 8 1/2 year old Red Heeler mix. This gorgeous little lady is sweet as can be, and she simply cannot wait to make your acquaintance! Arabella came to the shelter as a stray; so what we know of her previous history is very limited. We have been able to garner some information though. What we have been told so far is that she has lived with and does very well with children of all age groups. She does tend to jump, so while she loves the kiddos, we would caution parents to be mindful of the fact that she could knock the tiny ones over. Jumping is a very trainable issue and nothing to be intimidated by, but potential adopters should simply be aware that she needs work on this. We have also been informed that she does great with other dogs and lived with another one in her previous home. Indeed, we've had no issues with her here with any of the other puppers, though it's worth noting that we also have not formally tested her with any off-leash yet. (We will hopefully do this soon and then update her profile.) You are always more than welcome to bring your own furry friend out to meet any of our dogs prior to adopting, to ensure that it is a great fit for everyone involved. Arabella has no prior cat experience, though we can also test her on that as well, for any interested parties.
This sweetheart was formerly named Bella, and she does seem to respond to it. We named her Arabella due to already having a Bella in our shelter at the time. Adopters are more than welcome to change her name though, and she is certainly young enough to adjust to it quite quickly. Arabella is an active and playful girlie who would really thrive in a home that had plenty of time to devote to her mental, emotional, and physical needs. As a working dog breed, Arabella will have excess energy that an owner will need to be committed to burning off each day to keep her at her healthiest, happiest self. While she does seem fairly mellow for her breed, we suggest potentially interested adopters do some research prior to committing. She may need more mental stimulation than the average dog to keep her focused on the right tasks and prevent boredom and the problems that can accompany that. Arabella is good about entertaining herself while playing, but she definitely delights in having some company now and then to engage with her on that level. She would also benefit from some general training. As far as we are aware, Arabella has had very little effort put towards her in this area. She's still just a puppy though, and she is eager to please. But we do feel it's our duty to inform any interested families that you are probably starting essentially from scratch with all areas of training. While training isn't the funnest part of getting a new family member, there are definitely benefits to the blank slate status, and a dedicated owner should be able to get her on the right track pretty readily!
Arabella is such a little gem, and she has her whole life ahead of her. We're hoping she will be more fully appreciated in her next home. She has had her first round of vaccinations and is now officially up for adoption and ready to get the heck outta here and on to her next adventures!
