Meet Blue! Blue is an almost four year old, neutered male, Blue Heeler/Australian Shepherd mix. He's ready to get out of here and back into a home environment where he can feel comfortable again!
Blue finds himself at the shelter through no fault of his own due to his owners getting a divorce. Full disclosure, Blue's anxiety can get the best of him at times, and he will require a vigilant owner who has experience with dog behavior. Blue is a super good boy who just needs an increase in confidence and to have his protective tendencies properly channeled. He is oh-so-sweet and has proved successful with children and as all around as a family dog; he is extraordinarily devoted to his people. Blue is a bit standoffish with strangers, though. This includes both people and other dogs. While he lived with three other dogs in his former home and did very well with them, it needs to be noted that these were dogs he was raised around from puppyhood. He is very dog selective when it comes to new dogs, and he might be best paired with a submissive playmate or a young puppy that won't be threatening to him. He will not be adopted into a home with cats, as he has demonstrated a high prey drive. While he has never hurt or killed a cat, we don't believe he would live peacefully with one, and we will not allow him to go to a home that has them. With humans, Blue is receptive, though not necessarily eager, to meet new people. It takes a moment to gain his trust, but once earned, Blue absolutely blossoms and allows you to see another side of him.
Once comfortable, this handsome boy is so affectionate and thoroughly enjoys playing. He LOVES toys. Plush squeaky toys are his favorite, but he will play enthusiastically with anything you give him! Blue also enjoys going on walks, but he needs to be monitored en route, as he can be territorial of his humans if other dogs approach. He also enjoys gentle cuddles and learning new tricks. (So far he knows "sit" and "lay down.") Blue is an amazing spirit who just needs some patience, understanding, and a job to do. Please do your research on this dog breed before inquiring to make sure you have a good knowledge base of the requirements, activity level, and temperament of working dogs such as Blue. This cutie patootie is nothing short of a love bug and simply needs someone to work with him and to help him exercise both his body and mind.
