Meet Buddy! This big old hunk of love is a 1 year old male German Shorthair Pointer/Labrador mix. He's active, playful, and super friendly.
Buddy was surrendered to us alongside his brother, Bruce, who has his own listing here on our website. The two do not have to be adopted out together - but, if you are interested in a pair, there is a discount for getting two dogs at once! The brothers were part of an accidental litter when their owner's hunting dogs got together. While he initially wanted to keep Buddy, he unfortunately didn't have enough time to take care of all of the dogs, and made the tough decision to let them find better homes.
Buddy is still young, and as such needs plenty of activity! He loves to be included on adventures, and won't be content to sit at home bored all day. Buddy is also quite the big boy, and will need a home with enough space for him to lounge. If you're looking for a dog that can keep up with your active lifestyle, then Buddy could be a good fit!
Buddy has been around other dogs before and did well with them. He and his brother, Bruce, have always gotten along great. They haven't been around kids or cats before. They're not given us a reason to think that they wouldn't like kids, but it's always a good idea to bring the whole family to meet a dog before bringing them home. Buddy has received some obedience training, and knows how to sit and come on command. He was mostly kept outdoors in his previous home, though, so he doesn't have much potty training. His future owner will need to dedicate some time and get Buddy on his best behavior. We have noticed that Bud can get uncomfortable with some strangers. It seems to be worse around some men, but we think it mainly stems from the shelter being chaotic at times. Having previously been an outdoor dog and seeing the same people his whole life, it is a big adjustment to go to being in a kennel all day with strangers constantly walking by. It takes some extra time to get Bud to trust you, but he is well worth the effort!
Buddy is too sweet of a dog to sit in a shelter all day! He has received his first round of vaccinations and is ready to go to his forever home. If you think Buddy could be the dog for you, stop by and meet him today!
