Meet Lyla, our gorgeous new addition to the shelter! Lyla is a 1 year old female German Shepherd mix. She's incredibly sweet, and is on the lookout for a forever family!

Lyla's previous owner found her as a stray and tried to find a new home for her, but could not keep her long-term. Now, since she was initially a stray, they unfortunately didn't know much about her past. Lyla was around a few other dogs in her previous home and did well with them. We have also tested her with another female we have at the shelter, and they get along great. We do not know if Lyla has lived with cats or kids in the past. She has met a few kids briefly at the shelter and did fine with them as well. We always recommend a meet and greet with any pets or children in the home prior to adoption so you can be sure it's the right fit.

At the shelter, Lyla has been a huge lovebug. She's a snuggler, and is always happiest when curled up on someone's lap. She can be a little timid, and doesn't like if someone just grabs at her right off the bat. She also can be scared if you throw toys over her head, and prefers that you go slow at first. Even on first meeting, though, she quickly warms up and will be laying on you asking for love!

Lyla has started on her training, but she will need some work to get to 100%. She's done a good job of keeping her kennel clean here, but her previous owner said she wasn't fully housebroken. She does already know sit. Her owners also let us know that Lyla is a bit of a flight risk. Like most Shepherds, she's too smart for her own good, and excels at finding escape routes. Her new family will need to keep a watchful eye out to ensure Lyla isn't getting loose.

Anyone that has had a German Shepherd before knows that they can be very high energy. While Lyla is smaller than a lot of Shepherds, she is no less active. These types of dogs thrive in a home where they can get plenty of physical and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. If you're someone that loves to lead a more active lifestyle and has been looking for a buddy, but didn't want something too large, then consider Lyla!

Lyla has received her first round of vaccinations and is ready to go to her forever home! If you think this pup could be the one for you, stop by and meet her today!
