Meet Dusty! This old soul is looking for a safe place to land after a tragic past year.

Dusty is a 10 year old spayed female Dachshund mix. She lived her whole life being very loved by her owner, but heartbreakingly her owner passed away and there was no one to take Dusty in. Dusty had to stay with strangers for a bit while her owner was in the hospital, and has now found herself surrounded by new faces at the shelter. This is obviously a little overwhelming for this girl, and she needs time to feel safe in her new normal. Dusty isn't feeling up to a lot of interaction right now, and asks that you go very slow when first meeting her. She just needs the chance to get to know you and see that you are a safe space!

Dusty is used to being the only child in the home, and she would like to keep it that way. She can sometimes get along with other small dogs that respect her space, but she isn't the biggest fan of other animals. She's also not a fan of children, and would do best in a home with adults only. Dusty is at the age where she doesn't want to be super active, and would prefer to hang out with her person all day! A calm and quiet home will be a must to ensure this girl can settle in properly.

As Dusty gets to know us, we are starting to see some of her true personality shine. If you sit with her and let her feel you out first, she'll start to open up and ask for love. She tends to get overwhelmed easily, though, and if too many people mess with her at once she gets very anxious and doesn't want to be bothered. It will just take time and patience to get her to open up all of the way! Her heart was broken to lose her last owner, and she just needs to know it's safe to allow someone else in.

Dusty is housebroken and does know some basic commands. Please keep in mind, though, that as she ages Dusty may start to struggle waiting to go to the bathroom. She's also reaching the age where regular health checks by a vet are a must to ensure she's living her best life. Dusty still has a lot of love to give and life to live, and is just waiting for the right home to thrive in!

If you can feel your heart opening up to poor Dusty, then don't make her wait any longer! All she needs is for that perfect fit to come find her and rescue her from the shelter. If you think you could be the right match, stop by and meet our sweet Dusty today!
