I am Groot!
This handsome hunk of love is an almost-6 year old Presa Canario/Mastiff mix. Groot is a very big boy, with a lot of love to give - he just needs to find a family to give it to!
Groot came to us through no fault of his own. His previous family had too many responsibilities between work and kids, and felt that Groot deserved an owner that could dedicate more time to him. Groot is an incredibly sweet boy, and is well trained. Living in a home with 6 young children, he knew not to knock them down and to not steal food from the young ones. He knows a multitude of other tricks like sit, stay, and come. Even at a place as stressful as the shelter, Groot has been very gentle with us, and seems like what he wants most in the world is a best friend to spend his days with.
As previously mentioned, Groot has lived with plenty of children before of all ages, and did great with all of them. His previous owners liked to take him on outings to the dog park and similar places, and Groot never had a problem with any dogs he met. Please keep in mind, though, that going from a family home to the shelter is a very stressful adjustment, and Groot may need some grace as he adjusts to his new normal. Groot has never been around cats. We always recommend a meet and greet with any pets or children in the home prior to adoption so you can be sure this dog is the right one for you.
Weighing in at 95.5 pounds, Groot is definitely an extra-large boy! He's not gonna be a good apartment dog, as he's going to need more space than that. While he is older and not quite as active as a young dog would be, he still has plenty of energy and isn't at the stage yet where he only wants to lay around. Groot would love an owner that understands the perfect balance between leisure time and fun activities. Whatever you have planned, Groot is along for the ride!
One last thing to mention about Groot - he has not been neutered yet, due to his testicles never dropping. This happens occasionally, and doesn't hurt the dog. When his future owners go to get him fixed, it will be more expensive than a typical neuter as the vet will have to go inside to complete the surgery.
Groot has received his first round of vaccinations and is house broken. He's hoping not to have to spend too long at the shelter, but to quickly go to a new home where he can continue spreading all of the love (and drool)! If you think this handsome guy could be the dog for you, stop by and meet him today!
