Meet Hunter! This handsome son of a gun is a 2 year old neutered Coonhound. He's been incredibly sweet at the shelter, but we're hoping he won't have to stay here too long!
Hunter's previous owners didn't have the time or space to care for this boy, so they made the tough decision to help him find a home that would be a better fit. From what they've told us, and from what we've seen, Hunter LOVES strangers! Some dogs can be nervous when they first arrive at the shelter, but not this boy - he was ready to make friends immediately. He has quickly added his signature hound howl to our symphony of barks, and is very excited to see all of the new faces.
In his previous home, Hunter was kept mostly outdoors. Due to this, he's gonna need some training if you want to make him an indoor dog. He is partially housebroken, but he doesn't have it 100% down yet. He also, like most hounds, likes to make a lot of noise. He likely wouldn't be a good fit for an apartment or duplex, as your neighbors might not appreciate his singing. Hunter has already proven himself to be a very intelligent boy. Hounds can be trained to perform all sorts of tasks, so if you're looking for a buddy you can work with, Hunter could be your guy!
Hunter has been around other animals and did okay with them. Here, he hasn't shown any issue with the dogs that pass by him, but we haven't introduced him to any yet. His previous owner did let us know that Hunter can be possessive of his food with other dogs, so any canine friends should be supervised. He has been around kids before and did well with them. As always, we recommend a meet and greet with any pets or kids in the home before adopting.
We've already fallen in love with this handsome boy, and we're sure you will too! Hunter is already neutered and up to date on his shots, and he is microchipped, which can be transferred to his new owner after adoption. If you think Hunter could be the pooch for you, stop by and meet him today!
