Jeepers Creepers! We have a new arrival at the shelter just in time for spooky season!
Say hello to Jeepers, the 5 month old Shepherd/Boxer mix. He sadly didn't find a home to spend Halloween with, so his new goal is to find a family to celebrate the holidays with!
Jeepers was initially found as a stray on the side of the highway, with no owners in sight. His finders were going to keep him, but their lives were just too busy to keep him long term. They had a house full of kids, and said that Jeepers got along great with them all! They didn't have any other pets, though, so we aren't sure how he would do living with other animals. We did introduce him to another puppy at the shelter and we noticed that Jeepers seems to be very dominant when interacting with other dogs. This is a behavior that will need to be worked on in his new home as he ages, as you want to make sure it doesn't progress into aggression. We are requiring that any dogs already in the home come out to meet Jeepers before an adoption is completed to make sure that it is a good fit.
Immediately upon meeting Jeepers, we could tell he was a sweet boy. He will jump straight up in your lap and just wants to be loved on all day! We have noticed, however, that he gets nervous if a stranger just grabs at him. He has nipped in the past when pushed, and will need continued training and positive reinforcement as he gets his confidence up. With him having some timid tendencies, he should be supervised around small kids until he can get used to being a part of the family.
Jeepers is still a young boy, and as such, his owner will need to be prepared for all of the puppy behaviors! He is not yet housebroken and doesn't know any commands, so training will be a must. He's also smack dab in his teething stage, and will want to chew on things to help his painful gums. He has plenty of energy, and will need an owner with the free time to help him exercise all of it out!
