**Kilo is available for adoption - however, due to his need for continued medical care, he is a manager-approval adoption. These adoptions can only be completed Tuesday through Friday, from 1-4 PM. He is still available to play with on the weekends, but an adoption cannot be finalized until a manager is here during the week to approve it. Please contact us with any questions, or stop in during business hours.**
Meet Kilo! This big ol' boy is a 6 year old neutered Cane Corso. Here at the shelter, he has been the definition of "gentle giant." We've already fallen in love with him, and we hope he can quickly find the forever home he deserves!
Kilo was surrendered to us through no fault of his own due to his owner not having the time to care for this boy. So far, he's been the sweetest little man at the shelter. He is underweight, and also came in with a pretty nasty ear infection. Even so, he's been incredibly patient with us as we've poked and prodded, and has given us no problems so far.
Kilo has been around kids before and did fine with them. This is a very strong dog breed, so any littles should be supervised around him to ensure no accidents happen. We do not know, though, how Kilo is around other animals. Based off of his personality, his previous owner did think Kilo could get along with other animals, but that he might play rough. We strongly recommend a meet and greet with any pets or kids in the home prior to adoption.
Kilo has received some training, but he's not 100% yet. He is not fully housebroken, and will definitely need a refresher as he adjusts to his new home. He does know some basic commands like sit, stay, and leave it, but he tends to let his mind wander. Corsos can be stubborn, so be prepared to work with this boy to keep him on his best behavior. We've also observed that Kilo tends to get rowdy as he plays. He can get rough when he's too excited, and will need training on how to handle his own size.
If you've ever owned a dog of this size or breed, you know they can be a lot of work. We ask that anyone considering Kilo do research on Cane Corsos, and don't just choose him for the aesthetic. These dogs are fiercely loyal to their owners, but this can lead to problems with strangers or visitors. They can also be very stubborn, and experience with big dogs will be a must to ensure Kilo is going to a family that is right for him. We also ask that you keep in mind that Kilo, as with many Corsos with cropped ears, deals with recurring ear infections. His owner will need to stay on top of this and ensure Kilo is receiving the care he needs to stay happy and healthy. Being as underweight as he is, too, his owner is going to need some dedication to get him completely healthy in his new home. We have started him on medication at the shelter, but it is going to take time to get him 100%. Kilo's home will also need the space to accommodate a dog of his size. Kilo is not an apartment dog, and will need a place large enough to fit him.
Kilo has received his first round of vaccinations, and is finally ready to get out of the shelter! Stop by to meet Kilo today and give him a second chance at a forever family!
