Meet Belly! Belly is a 2 year old Labrador/Heeler mix who is searching for a forever home!
When you meet Belly, it's not hard to see where she got her name from! As soon as she sees you, she tends to roll over and show you her stomach, looking for some nice belly rubs! Once she's comfortable with you, Belly truly is a snuggle bug, and just wants to stay glued to your side. She loves to give hugs, and will wrap her paws around you so you can't leave her.
Belly was part of an accidental litter, and her and her siblings developed an unfortunate habit of attacking their owner's sheep. Because of this, she and her siblings were mostly kept together in an outdoor pen. Having been outdoors her whole life, Belly has not received any training. She is not housebroken, and does not know commands. She is a very smart girl, though, and just needs an owner willing to work with her!
Belly is an incredibly sweet girl once you get to know her, but she can be very nervous around strangers. We've noticed that her nervousness seems to be worst with men. She doesn't like when strangers reach for her, and can get very overwhelmed or try to nip. She has not actually bitten anyone, but if pushed it could lead to that. Whoever is interested in Belly will need to be mindful of this, and be willing to work with her on her fears. Once you're someone that she trusts, she is such a sweetheart - she just needs the opportunity to open up! Belly loves to hug her favorite people, and will jump up on you demanding attention!
Belly was mostly kept in an outdoor pen with her siblings, and it has led to some issues with reactivity. Belly and her siblings would often fight over food, and as such they are very picky about which dogs they get along with. We are requiring that any canines in the home be brought out to meet Belly prior to adoption to make sure it is a good fit. Please keep in mind, too, that because a lot of the issues stemmed from food aggression, in the home she should still be watched around other dogs to make sure they don't start fighting over resources. We have never seen Belly around children, so we strongly recommend you bring out any kids to meet her as well. With her history of reactivity, it will be extremely important to supervise children around Belly until she has the time to fully adjust to them.
Belly has received her first round of vaccinations and is ready for a forever home! If you think you could be the right fit for our girl, stop by and meet her today!
