Meet Rocky, the lovable and spirited Labrador!
Rocky is a 1 and a half year old Labrador Retriever who's looking for a home where he can be the center of attention. He was surrendered to us through no fault of his own when his previous owner could no longer afford to care for their dogs. This laid back sweetheart has spent most of his life outdoors and loves spending time with his people, especially kids! He's crate-trained and knows basic commands like "sit", "off", "come", and "leave it". However, Rocky does have his quirks; he is a master food thief, snatching snacks from tables when he has the chance to do so. He needs more work on being fully housebroken if he is going to be an indoor dog. Rocky also needs work on his recall. He will need a home with a secure yard to ensure he can't go running off.
When Rocky first came to the shelter, he was feeling pretty overwhelmed. This place is stressful for any animal, and Rocky needed some extra time to adjust. After a few days of giving him space, though, he was back to his normal and loving self. Just be prepared that Rocky may be nervous as he adjusts to his new home, and may take some extra patience.
Rocky has been around kids before and did great with them. Please keep in mind that any new animal should be supervised around children until they have fully settled into their new home. Rocky has been around other dogs, and got along well with some, but can be very picky about his canine friends. Due to this, he is a required meet and greet with other dogs in the home to ensure it's a good fit. We have found him a buddy here at the shelter, and they get along great. We do know, though, that Rocky is not good with cats or small animals. He has a very high prey drive, and will not be sent to a home with felines or small pets to ensure everyone's safety.
