Shigure

Shigure

Meet Shigure! This handsome boy is an almost-4 year old Labrador Retriever/Boxer mix. He's super loving and very playful. He's hoping to find a forever home very soon!

Shigure was surrendered to us because his owner no long had the time or space for him. This was not a decision to made lightly, and she was heartbroken as Shigure truly is a special boy. When he first met us at the shelter, he was a little shy, but quickly was crawling up into our laps. Shigure is the type of dog that doesn't realize he's not lap-sized, and he wants to be as close to you as possible! Even as we messed with him, getting his weight on the scale and giving him vaccinations, he was gentle throughout and never showed us any kind of aggression. As we get to know him, we just love him more and more!

Shigure, sadly, has a rough past. His owner escaped with him from an abusive situation, and this has led to Shigure preferring women. He still gets along with men, but it usually takes him longer to warm up to them. His owner said that Shigure was amazing at protecting her, and would try to stick as close to her as possible to make sure she was safe. Yelling also makes this boy uncomfortable due to his past, so please be mindful of what tactics you're using with training and adjust them to make sure they fit Shigure's needs. Shigure is the type of dog that will be 100% loyal to his owner and will truly be a life-long best friend.

Shigure hasn't spent much time around other animals or kids. Here at the shelter, he hasn't had problems walking by our other dogs, but we have not tested him with any yet. While he's been super sweet to all of us, we haven't seen how he'd be around young children that might grab at him or make a lot of noise. Due to this, we strongly recommend a meet and greet with any pets or kids in the home prior to adoption.

Shigure has received some training rom his previous owner. He is housebroken, and knows how to sit on command. He still has some things to work on, however. He loevs to give hugs, so if you're the type of perosn that doesn't want your dog jumping, you will need to work on that with him. He also pulls pretty strongly on his leash, and could benefit from some training on that as well. As previously mentioned, though, yelling does make Shigure nervous, so be prepared to work around that to make sure he feels comfortable in his new home.

Shigure has received his first round of vaccinations and is ready to find a forever home in which he can thrive! If you think this sweet boy could be the dog for you, stop by and meet him today!
