Meet Maybee!
Maybee is a 1-2 year old Belgian Malinois possible mix! She does not appear to be spayed!
Maybee was brought in to the shelter as a stray on Sunday after she approached a car that pulled off onto the Victoria Exit dragging a tattered pink leash.
Maybe she was dumped? Maybe she got spooked and slipped away?
No owner came forward for Miss Maybee so Friday, August 8th, she will officially become available for adoption!
While we are still getting know Maybee, we can confidently say she is NO CATS! Everytime she sees a cat, it’s a bad reaction. We will not adopt her out to a home with cats or small farm animals (chickens, ducks, etc)
We have not introduced Maybee to other dogs and are not sure how she will do with them! We would strongly recommend a meet and greet with any other dogs in the home before adopting! I have a feeling small dogs are going to be a no as well but that’s not a fact.
Maybee is underweight for her size and will need to put on a little more weight. After watching her eat, she definitely eats in a way that suggests she had to watch out for other dogs. She hunches herself up and constantly keeps her eye on her surrounds while she snarfs her food quickly. If she does get along with other dogs, I would suggest feeding them separately! I would also monitor treats or bones if they are given out in your home. I’m not saying she will do something, but it is a strong possibility given what we’ve seen. So far she has not shown any food aggression toward us humans but it’s always something you want to watch out for!
We are not sure how Maybee will do with children of any size or age. I would feel more comfortable seeing the whole family meet her before agreeing to a home with young children. I say this because her first day, she was very shy. No aggression was ever shown, but she was definitely cautious and flinched quite a bit.
Maybee is definitely going to best with a fenced in yard! If she did get spooked and slipped away from someone, she may be a flight risk! We don’t want her bolting again!
Maybee does appear to know sit and off so she was trained! She does have accidents in her kennel occasionally, but I believe with a routine, she will pick up house training quickly!
Miss Maybee is extremely sweet and affectionate once she is comfortable and at ease! She has definitely won over my heart fast!
