** Lucy Adoption Availability Date Set: Lucy will be available for adoption on Wednesday, MARCH 26th at 1:00 p.m. Please note, Lucy is a very popular dog and we do expect a drawing to be held from the approved applicants. We do not hold animals, and all adoptions will be first come-first serve starting the day she becomes available. Filling out an application does not guarantee an adoption, and you must be here in person to adopt. If more than one person is here at the same time wanting the same dog, a random drawing will be held between approved applicants. Please contact us for more details.***
***Lucy Surgical Updates: She had 8 mammary tumors removed, 2 uterine tumors removed and was spayed as well. Her chest x-ray was clear and the cancer has not metastasis at this time. The vet believes she was able to remove all the tumors; however, there is a chance that these cancerous tumors could return. Since this is the case, Lucy will require yearly check ups with a veterinarian to monitor her health in the future. ***
We are pleased to introduce our newest girl to the shelter, Lucy! Lucy is a 4 year old, spayed female, Yorkie. She's sweet, playful, and snuggly, and we're looking forward to seeing her meet her forever family!
Lucy came to us as a stray and was sadly never claimed by her owners. From the jump, she was a very popular dog here at the shelter, as we don't get Yorkies often. Unfortunately, Lucy came in with some mammary tumors, so we had to hold her for a while before we could send her home. Now that she's recovering well from her surgery, she's finally to get the heck outta here!
As soon as we met Lucy, we all fell in love. At first she was looking pretty rough grooming-wise, but even then she remained so loving. Lucy is the kind of dog that is happiest when she's by your side. She's a very snuggly little girl, and would really enjoy a family with lots of free time to dedicate to her! Lucy is also very curious. When given the chance, she loves to explore our backyard, sniffing everything she can.
Since Lucy was a stray, we unfortunately don't know much about her past. She doesn't seem to mind the other dogs here when she's passed by them, but we have not introduced her to other animals yet. We always recommend a meet and greet with any pets in the home prior to adoption, so you can be sure this pooch is the right one for you. We also haven't seen how she is around kids, and while she hasn't given us any cause for concern here, we recommend a meet and greet with any children as well.
As mentioned at the top, Lucy is going to require an owner that will stay vigilant about her care. There is a chance her tumors could reappear, so routine check ups will be a must. Her future owner will need to be prepared that future care or surgeries may be required. Lucy will also require regular grooming appointments to make sure she not only looks her best, but feels her best as well.
Lucy has received her first round of vaccinations and she'll be ready to get out of the shelter and into the loving home she deserves soon! If you're interested in Miss Lucy, stop by and meet her today!
