I'm ready for my new family!

Hi! My Name Is Fletcher

I'm Available

Meet Fletcher!

We've had some calls recently about people wanting senior dogs. If that fits the bill for you, then look no further! Our sweet boy is an 8 year old Labrador/Border Collie mix. Fletcher is pretty chill, and seems content to just play with his tennis balls all day. We're hoping that, despite his older age, he won't have to stay at the shelter too long.

Fletcher was found as a stray in Ellis County up near the interstate. Initially, his finders were concerned he'd been hit by a car, but after a thorough check up from a vet Fletcher was given the all-clear. Now, since he was a stray, we unfortunately don't know much about Fletcher's past. Based off what we observed, he seems like he may have been somebody's farm dog. He's well behaved at the shelter, sitting on command and never making a mess in his kennel, but he has some scars that seem to point to a working life (such as some tears in his ears.) Regardless of his past, we know that Fletcher deserves a home where he can thrive once more!

We have not yet tested Fletcher with any animals, so we aren't 100% sure how he would do living with other pets. When he passes by dogs here he doesn't really react to them, and seems like he'd prefer to do his own thing. He's also briefly met our office cats, and actually seemed a little scared of them, and avoided them. We haven't seen how Fletcher interacts with children. We noticed pretty immediately upon entering the shelter that it makes Fletcher nervous if you grab at his face or paws. He's never gotten aggressive with us, but will try his best to get away if we're pushing him too much. Small children that don't know yet how to respect a dog's boundaries should be supervised to ensure they aren't making Fletcher uncomfortable. We always recommend a meet and greet with any potential siblings in the home to make sure it's a good fit. Please keep in mind, too, that just as with humans, Fletcher is going to experience some aches and pains as he ages. He likely won't be a good fit for homes with children or pets that are going to jump all over him and make him even more sore.

It does seem like Fletcher has received some training in the past. As mentioned, he does a great job of keeping his kennel clean at the shelter, and will follow some basic commands. What is very apparent is that Fletcher loves on thing in this world more than anything else - tennis balls! His eyes light up as soon as you grab one for him, and he is content to spend all day chasing them. If you have a tennis ball in your hand, you could make this boy do just about anything!

Fletcher has received his first round of vaccinations and is ready to go to his forever home! He's been incredibly sweet and gentle here, and we know he's just waiting to meet the right family to spend his golden years with. If you think Fletcher could be the pooch for you, stop by and meet him today!
