We have another golden gal to add to the bunch - say hi to Buttons!
So far, this year has brought plenty of seniors to the shelter. Buttons, a 9 year old spayed female, is the newest addition to the group. She was surrendered to us through no fault of her own; sadly, her owner had to move and could not keep sweet Buttons. We know there's a home out there for her where she can live out her golden years in peace!
Now, Buttons is taking some extra time to get used to us at the shelter. Moving here is stressful for any animal, and senior cats seem to have a harder time adjusting than most. Once we gets her more comfortable, though, she will go back to her usual loving self. Buttons just asks that you go slow for now, and give her the time to get to know you. Even in the short time she's nown us, she's starting to warm up. She's not 100% comfortable yet, but she's starting to ask for pets and enjoy some lovin'.
Buttons was with her previous owner for years, and hasn't known much outside of that. She has been around dogs but did not particularly like them - due to this, we want her to go to a home without any canines. She has not been around cats or kids before. We strongly recommend a meet and greet with any felines or children in the home prior to adoption. Please keep in mind, too, that Buttons is going to take time to warm up to her new family and feel safe. She likely won't do well with small children that are going to get in her face or not respect her boundaries.
We know that some people may avoid adopting senior pets, but don't let that stop you from considering Buttons! With proper care, house cats can live 15 to 20 years, or potentially even longer. Buttons still has so much potential, and so much more love to give. She is already declawed; due to this, we are requiring that her adopter will keep her indoors at all times to ensure her safety. She is also already litter box trained, and is even microchipped! (Her microchip info can be transferred to your info after adoption.) Once she's gotten used to us a bit more here, she will be on the hunt for a new home to call her own. Don't make Buttons wait too long for her forever home - stop by to see her today!
