Meet Nikolai! Nikolai is a 5 year old, neutered male, Domestic Long Hair cat, and is on the hunt for his forever home!
Nikolai was found on a farm in Rooks County before being brought to us. His finders had taken care of him for a bit, but were unable to keep him long-term, and they wanted to help him find a more permanent place. It looks like, before coming to them, he was on his own for a while. His fur was pretty matted, to the point we had to shave most of it off, which is why you'll see him looking pretty bald in his photos., Given time, though, that luscious fur will grow back healthier than ever! His future owner will need to be prepared to assist him with grooming to ensure his coat doesn't get that bad again.
When Nikolai first arrived at the shelter, it took him a bit to fully warm up. He was always sweet, but was a little timid and preferred to hide. Given time, though, he quickly became a very affectionate cat. Now, he just wants to be with his favorite people at all times. He loves to be held, and even loves belly rubs! Slow and steady will be the key to win this boy's heart, but if you give him that chance, you will have a best friend for life.
Since Nikolai was a stray, we don't know if he's lived with kids or other animals before. We always recommend a meet and greet with any potential siblings before taking a new pet home. Please keep in mind that, with Nikolai being on the shy side, he might not appreciate animals or kids that are gonna get in his face right off that bat. When he goes to his new home, Nikolai will likely need some time to adjust and feel 100% comfortable.
Nikolai can have a bit of a sensitive stomach, and will need an adopter that will keep a close eye and ensure Nikolai is staying healthy. After working with our vet to ensure there were no lingering infections, and switching him to a gentler food, Nikolai has started to flourish once more!
Nikolai has received his first round of vaccinations and is litter box trained. He's now ready to get out of the shelter and into his forever home! If you think Nikolai could be the cat for you, stop by and meet him today!
