Lonely Hearts Club Members are animals that have been at HSHP for over 30 days. In an effort to help them find homes, we have discounted their adoption fees!
While we are a no kill shelter and will not euthanize for space, it is not healthy for these animals to sit in a shelter setting for too long. Most animals will begin to decline in mental happiness which leads to physical deterioration. Some animals will begin to lose weight, hurt themselves trying to get out of their kennel, develop barrier reactivity, joint issues from being on concrete. We hate so see animals go through this horrible transition in life and want to do what we can to find them homes sooner rather than later.

Meet Nora! Nora has been at HSHP since September, 10th. She is a Labrador x Heeler mix. She is 3 years old and already spayed!
Nora grew up on a farm where she spent the first 2-3 years of her life in an outdoor kennel with her siblings. Eventually the siblings developed littermate syndrome and began to fight one another and was the eventual reason behind them being surrendered to the shelter. Due to not seeing anything in the world other than the kennel on the farm, Nora is a bit shy with new people and situations. She is being very brave though and wants so badly to learn. She is constantly surprising us with her courage everyday. At first, we thought Nora would not be able to live around any other dogs. However, we learned Nora is BOY CRAZY! She loves to meet and play with male dogs! In fact, Nora would greatly benefit from having a male dog around to show her that life outside her bubble is not scary at all! Despite being untrained, Nora is very well behaved. She keeps her kennel clean here at the shelter and sits patiently while you leash her up.
Nora would be a great companion for someone and just needs to find the right mix to fit in with!

Meet Nevada! Nevada is around 3-4 years old and we believe she is a Pitbull Terrier x Australian Cattle Dog mix. She has been spayed!
Poor Nevada came to HSHP as a stray after she was found dumped at the local Dog Park here in Hays. She was scared and lost until a family pulled over to check on her. She immediately lit up at the sight of the children and was totally in love with them. We have learned that Nevada is not very fond of other dogs, but when it comes to children... She absolutely adores them. Nevada's favorite thing in life is her stuffy toys! She carries one with her everywhere she goes and loves to show them off to those who come see her. Nevada is just adorable and will make some family a very loving companion!

Meet Copper! Copper is a 3 year old male. We were told he is a Border Collie mix and we are thinking there is some hound in there. He is neutered!
Copper joined HSHP after he and the other dog he lived with started having problems. We are not sure what may have led to those issues, but we do know he gets along great with a female dog here at HSHP. Copper just may be a little more selective on what dogs he can and cannot get along with. He has not been around cats or children.
Copper is a very happy boy who is very treat motivated and he is house trained! He does have some energy, but he tires out pretty quick! Copper does have some jitters in his kennel when people walk through our building. This kind of behavior can be unattractive to people when they walk through. However, we feel that once he gets out of here, he will begin to relax and be a new dog!

Meet Mishka! Mishka is an 8 year old Siberian Husky. She is a spayed female!
Mishka came to HSHP to no fault of her own. Her previous living situation changed and she was unable to be a part of that change. Sweet Mishka is a staff faveorite at HSHP! She loves most other dogs and would enjoy having a home with another one to play with. She doesn't mind cats at all and is great with children.
Mishka has spent most of her 8 years living outside and that is where she is happiest. She would thrive in a home where she can be allowed indoors but has a nice yard where she can spend most of her time.
Despite being 8, Mishka still has a lot of spunk left in her. She loves to play with stuffed toys and run around the yard like a puppy!

Meet Marley! Marley is a 1 year old German Shepherd x Labrador mix. She is not yet spayed. Marley was previously owned by an elderly person and could not keep up with the high energy Marley has.
Marley definitely needs a home with routine and structure. She can become a little more hectic if she is in a setting that is unpredictable (like the shelter). She is very sweet and smart. She would make a great project for someone who is willing to work on her training. Once she gets through a training routine, she is going to be an amazing and loyal pooch!
Marley does get along with dogs that are smaller than her and not so rough. She does prefer to be the one in charge and would do better in a home with submissive dogs. She has not been tested with cats yet and we are not sure how she will do with them.
We would prefer Marley not go to a home with small children as she can be a bit too much at the moment and may knock them down.
Marley just needs someone to see past her shelter jitters and see the potential she has!

Meet Cyclone! Cy is a 9 month old Domestic Short Hair. He is a male and is not yet neutered!
Baby boy Cyclone came in with 3 of his brothers a month ago. They have all been adopted except for Cyclone. When they first came in, the boys were all very shy and nervous. Unfortunately, Cy was the most shy and took a little longer to warm up. We can happily say that he is now very sweet and loves to be loved on! He gets along great with other cats and we are positive he would thrive even more with another cat in the home. He is a little nervous around dogs and young children yet, but given his sweet personality, he could potentially grow to love them.
